Chicago on Lockdown For "Foreseen Days" After Night of Chaos and Looting

Wrigley Field Campus Mobilized In Support of COVID-19-Relief Efforts

Chicago is under lockdown "until further notice" after widespread looting early Monday morning.

Mayor Lori Lightfoot announced she will use all available city resources and won't stop until neighborhoods are safe.

Her plan includes a heavy police presence. All officers will work 12-hour shifts and all days off have been canceled for now.

Five hours of looting and widespread vandalism broke out shortly after midnight on Monday. At least 100 people were arrested; 13 police officers were injured.

Officials say the downtown destruction was sparked by incorrect reports of police shooting an unarmed teen.

The shooting actually involved a 20-year-old man who shot at police as he was running from them. He is expected to recover.
