Wednesday night around 9 p.m. the Wyandot County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an overdue kayaker on the Sandusky River.  William “Mike” Shanabeger, age 47 from North Bloomington, was dropped off at the Harrison Smith Park in Upper Sandusky where he was to Kayak north to a family owned property just inside Seneca County, near McCutchenville.  Mikes vehicle was left at this location for him to drive home.  At the time of this report the car was still at that location.

At 11:28 p.m. a capsized kayak was located approximately 850 feet north of SH 103 near the east bank. When the kayak was turned over Mike’s body was found submerged underneath it.

Wyandot County Coroner Dr. Joseph Sberna ruled the cause of death as an accidental drowning.
