Marion, Ohio – Apex Clean Energy and Marion Technical College are pleased to announce a new partnership to help educate and train the next generation of clean energy workers with the creation of the Tymochtee Solar Scholarship Fund.
Through this partnership, the Marion Technical College Foundation will administer a new scholarship program targeted at students in the college’s Electrical Engineering Technology – Alternative Energy degree program, a two-year, full-time program that trains students in engineering, mechanical, and related fields for students seeking careers in the renewable energy industry. The program provides students with the key electrical skills needed to install, operate and maintain various alternative energy systems and also exposes them to the business of energy.
Through the Tymochtee Solar project, Apex will provide $75,000 to create the scholarship fund. Funds will be available beginning 30 days after the project’s commercial operations date, currently anticipated for mid-to-late 2025.
“We are excited to launch this new partnership with Marion Tech to provide new clean energy career options to Wyandot County students.” said Gena Shelton, Public Engagement Manager with Apex Clean Energy. “Tymochtee Solar will create hundreds of construction jobs and several long-term operations jobs for aspiring solar installers and technicians. Encouraging students to pursue these careers is key to meeting our mission of accelerating the shift to clean energy.”
“We are excited about the investment in our students to build the workforce of tomorrow,” said Dr. Ryan McCall, president of Marion Technical College. “Engineering technology is in-demand. We appreciate scholarship to lower barriers for students to get ahead.”
Additional details about the application process will be released to current and prospective students once available. Students with questions about the scholarship program or the college’s alternative energy program in general should contact Marion Technical College Admissions at enroll@mtc.edu or (74) 389-4636 for more information.
