On Sunday, August 21, 2022 Pleasant Local Schools and The Marion Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors, family, friends, and guests of the Pleasant Community held a Dedication and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the grand opening of their new Grades 5-12 Secondary Building.
The new Secondary Building is 129,569 square feet. This project is an Ohio Facilities Construction Commission (OFCC) project. Fanning Howey was the architect and engineer firm for the project and Peterson Construction Company was the construction manager. Thomas F. Schifer served as the district’s owner agent.
The building boasts a two-story academic wing with middle school on the second floor and high school on the lower floor. Each classroom is designed as a learning studio with flex studios in the middle to support collaboration and 21st century learning. Additionally, a makerspace and an engineering lab provide students with additional opportunities for hands-on education. The main gymnasium has seating for approximately 1200 spectators, and a theater with a stage for performances and seating for 500+ spectators.
As an OFCC project, a master planned solution is created to support the future addition for grades K-4 to be funded by the OFCC. Next steps for the district are to abate and demolish the middle school, update or build a new bus garage, improve the athletic portion of the existing high school, and prepare the campus for phase two of the project which will add a K-4 academic wing, creating a comprehensive K-12 campus for all Pleasant Local students.
Pleasant is excited to welcome students on August 30, 2022 for the first day of school.
