AQUA ANNOUNCES $1.3MILLION OF MARION AREA PROJECTS

MARION, OH–Aqua is announcing plans for eight water distribution projects aimed at enhancing reliability and water flows in Marion. The projects will replace water mains that have been in service between 80 and 90 years.

“Because of the relatively small scope of these projects we’ve combined them into three stages of construction that will be completed consecutively by the same contractor,” said Aqua Ohio’s Area Manager Scott Ballenger. “By combining our construction plans we were able to take advantage of better pricing. Ultimately, that keeps costs lower and ultimately minimizes the impact those costs have on rates”

The projects in the first stage will begin on August 22 and include:

●Marseille Circle (entire street)-replacing 175 feet of 2-inch cast iron water main with 6-inch ductile iron pipe,

●Bahama Court (entire street)-replacing 270 feet of 2-inch cast iron water main with 6-inch ductile iron pipe,

●Hughes Street-replacing 445 feet of 2-inch cast iron water main with 6-inch ductile iron pipe from State Street to the Marion County Fairgrounds,

●Grant Street-replacing 790 feet of 2-inch cast iron water main with 8-inch ductile iron pipe between Fairground Street and Van Buren Street.

As those projects are completed, workers will move to stage two projects below:

●Nunin Court--replacing 280 feet of 2-inch cast iron water main with 6-inch ductile iron pipe,

●Garden Street--replacing 481 feet of 8-inch cast iron water main with 8-inch ductile Iron pipe between Center Street and Church Street,

●Plymouth Street (entire street)-replacing 782 feet of 2-inch cast iron water main with 6-inch ductile iron pipe

The final stage of construction will include:

●Marion-Mount Gilead Road-replacing 375 feet of 8-inch water main with 12-inch ductile iron between University Drive and Edgefield Boulevard.

All work is expected to be completed in November. In total, 3,580 linear feet of water main will be replaced and will include 12 new fire hydrants and 22 new valves used to isolate sections of main for future repair or maintenance.

Access to individual driveways will be maintained but on-street parking will be restricted in areas where the contractor is working. Water service will be maintained throughout construction. However, customers receiving new service lines will experience short-term interruptions while their services are connected to the new main near the end of the project. Those customers will be notified by Aqua in advance of the planned interruptions.

Dirt Dawg of Ashland Ohio was selected to perform the work and the budget for this project is $1,333,000. Ballenger said the company expects to spend more than $40 million across Aqua’s 35 Ohio systems in 2022, approximately $4 million of that will be invested locally in Marion.
