MCBDD Names New Board Member!

MARION, OH — The Marion County Board of Developmental Disabilities (MCBDD) welcomes a new board member, Jim McGuire, to fill an unexpired term ending in December 2024.

McGuire is an Engineer and received his Professional Engineering License in 1983. He has owned and operated J.L. McGuire and Associates Inc. for the past 36 years. His company has designed and built automation equipment for industries locally, nationally, and across the globe.

"I am always eager to help others so being part of an organization that does that as its mission is exciting," McGuire said. "My goal as a board member of MCBDD is to better educate myself on the work they do so I can share that knowledge with our community," he added.

McGuire is deeply involved in his church and enjoys sharing his personal relationship with Christ. He has enjoyed assisting his church with design and construction project and school buildings with the Haiti Missionaries. He is a strong conservative who loves God and Country.

He uses his passions to serve the Marion Community in a variety of ways, including serving on his church council as the Finance Chairman, board member for Habitat for Humanity, and as the Technical Committee Advisor at Marion Technical College. McGuire has also been an active member of First Consolidated Fire District for the past 26 years. He also serves on the Central Executive Republican Committee and presently

assisting with project management of building renovations of new Republican Headquarters in Marion County.

"McGuire is filling Ted Graham’s unexpired term and although those are big shoes to fill, he appears to be a perfect fit for our board," Cheryl Plaster, superintendent of the Marion County Board of Developmental Disabilities said of McGuire's appointment. “His engineering knowledge will be a tremendous asset when it comes to matters of our capital budget and building and facility maintenance projects.”

About MCBDD

Marion County Board of Developmental Disabilities is a governmental organization that provides advocacy and resources to allow those we serve to live, learn, and earn in Marion County.

In 1967, 88 County Boards of Developmental Disabilities were established by the Ohio state legislature to provide supports and services to individuals with intellectual and other developmental disabilities. This change in philosophy and public policy provided alternatives to state run institutions and afforded individuals the opportunity to live, work, and participate in their local community.

Today, more than 800 Marion County children and adults are being served locally. Based on available resources, MCBDD may provide, or arrange for, service and support administration, early childhood services, educational services, supported living, residential services, family support services, job training, employment services, Special Olympics, and many others.
