Marion County Prosecutor Ray Grogan announced today that Ziair Green, 18, was found guilty yesterday by a Marion County jury of Murder and Felonious Assault. His victim, Ricco McGhee was 43 years old at the time of his death.
“We are pleased with the jury’s verdict. We hope their verdict brings a sense of justice to Ricco’s family. We are aware of the fact that another family has also been greatly impacted by this case,” said Grogan.
On January 18, 2021 Green shot and killed Ricco McGhee on the sidewalk in front of Green’s residence. The jury considered, but ultimately rejected, Green’s claims of self - defense and defense of others.
Grogan said, “This case is a complete tragedy. Every choice has a consequence, and the consequences of gun violence have taken too much from our community. We need to do all we can to address it, and ultimately prevent it.”
“This case was investigated thoroughly and professionally by the Marion Police Department, particularly by lead Detective Erica Delp, as well as members of the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Marion City Fire Department, BCI and the Marion and Lucas County Coroner’s Office. I would also like to recognize Assistant Prosecutor Jocelyn Stefancin for her outstanding work in presenting this case with me at trial,” said Grogan.
Sentencing is scheduled for February 25, 2022
