Gunman In Marion Shootout Pleads Guilty

The Bucyrus gunman involved in a shooting that led to a manhunt and ended in an exchange of gunfire with police, will spend at least the next 17 years in prison after pleading guilty to attempted murder charges. Thirty-three year-old Matthew W. Lust, was scheduled to got to trial today on charges of attempted murder after he allegedly shot and injured the mother of his children July 3 outside her Bain Avenue home in Marion.  Lust, then got into a firefight about an hour later with law enforcement officers on Patterson Street.  Monday, Lust pleaded guilty to three counts of attempted murder and to three gun specifications. These counts carry a mandatory penalty of 17 years in prison. The four counts of felonious assault on which Lust also was indicted were dismissed.  The attempted murder charges each carry a maximum penalty of 11 years in prison. Lust will be sentence tomorrow at 10 a.m.
