Former Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel is reportedly expected to become the Los Angeles Chargers' next offensive coordinator, sources with knowledge of the situation confirmed to ESPN's Adam Schefter and Jeff Darlington.
"Former Dolphins HC Mike McDaniel is expected to become the Chargers offensive coordinator barring a change of heart, per @JeffDarlington and me. McDaniel has informed other teams that they’re out, the Chargers clearly want him, and the two sides are having dinner tonight. But the expectation across the league is that McDaniel will be staying in LA," Schefter wrote on his X account. "Mike McDaniel would go from working with the No. 5 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, Tua Tagovailoa, to working with the No. 6 overall pick in that same draft, Justin Herbert."
McDaniel, 42, was fired by the Dolphins on January 8 after going 35-33 during five seasons, which included the playoffs during his first two, but also a losing record in each of his last two, including a 7-10 finish in 2025. The Colorado native had previously worked as the San Francisco 49ers' offensive coordinator in 2021, as well as several other offensive coaching gigs for NFL teams throughout his career.
