MARION, OH–Aqua is announcing plans to renovate their 300,000 gallon water tower later this month. The $350,000 project will involve draining, interior sandblasting, minor repairs and repainting the tower over the next few months. The tower is located near the intersection of South State Street and Hill Street and overlooks both Grant Middle School and the Marion Towers Apartments.
“It's important that we regularly maintain and repaint our water towers to stay ahead of corrosion and get as many years of service as possible from our investments,” said Aqua Ohio’s Area Manager Scott Ballenger. “This tower is a critical part of our system, not only does it provide storage for 300,000 gallons of treated water, but it helps regulate pressure levels in central Marion.”
Crews will start by pressure washing the outside of the tank and undertake repairs using hand tools. Paint will be applied by hand using brushes and rollers. Work is expected to be conducted Monday through Friday between 7:00am and 7:00pm and be complete by the end of June. Plans have been made to avoid noisy activities during early morning hours.
Customers will not notice any changes in their water during the project, though some pressure variations are possible. The quality of the water will not be affected and will continue to meet all federal and state water quality standards.
Seven Brothers Painting Company of Michigan was selected to perform the specialized work. Ballenger said that the $350,000 project is just part of the $8.5 million that Aqua will invest locally in Marion and $57 million across the company’s 35 Ohio systems in 2023.
