High Speed Chase from Carey Results in Crash, Injuries and an Arrest!

On 09/30/2022 a report was made to the Carey Police Department involving a stolen vehicle. The vehicle was located at the Casey's General Store located at 1400 S. Vance St. When officers attempted to contact the driver, the vehicle traveled northbound on S. Vance St. at a high rate of speed. A pursuit continued into the 500 block of N. Vance St. where the vehicle lost control and crashed into a utility pole, immobilizing the vehicle. The driver, who was later identified as Bryce Martinson of Massilion, OH fled on foot, north of the village into a wooded area. A female passenger was found to have sustained serious injuries and was transported to a medical facility by Life Flight.

Law enforcement conducted a search of the area and throughout the Village. Just prior to 6:00 am on 10/01/2022 the Carey Police Department received a report of a second stolen vehicle in the 200 block of Toledo St. This vehicle was observed traveling northbound on US 23 by an OSP unit of the Bucyrus post, near the rest stop. Attempting to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle, the vehicle fled the area continuing northbound on US 23/ OH 15 at a high rate of speed.

The pursuit continued northbound on OH-15 and into the city of Findlay. The incident ended after the driver fled the vehicle and was captured by law enforcement following a short foot pursuit. The suspect is currently being held at the Hancock County Jail. Law enforcement agencies involved with this incident include the Carey Police Dept. Upper Sandusky Police Dept. Hardin and Wyandot County Sheriff's Office, Wyandot County Detectives Unit, Ohio State Patrol - Bucyrus and Findlay Post, and the Findlay Police Department.
