Summer Reading Fun to Kick Off June 1st at Marion Public Library

Marion Public Library and Let’s Read 20 (LR20) team up to present Summer Reading Fun. This programing encourages kids to continue reading and participating in mentally stimulating activities in their time away from school. Libraries have hosted these programs for decades to combat the "Learning Slide", which describes a loss of educational gains made during the school year.

This year’s Oceans of Possibilities activities kick off June 1 with a Dr. Whiz Bang Science Show starting at 4:00 pm. The summer planning includes a great mix of engaging hands-on crafts, different age level writing activities, Internet Safety with Marion City Police, Story times, Armstrong Air & Space program, Digeridoo Down Under show, Swoop’s Pirate Birthday Party, and a finale magic show, July 30 with Rory Rennick. A full list of event details have been shared on the Library website and calendar. Visit MarionLibrary.org/SRP for specific dates and times.

The summer fun features incentives for kids who keep track of their reading over the summer. Engaging literacy activity and reading log sheets can be downloaded or picked up at Marion Public Library. LR20 books and assorted prizes will be awarded for up to two completed activity sheets. Thousands of reading hours have been logged in previous summers and this year it is even more important to continue literacy engagement.

It’s never too late to get your library card. Stop by the front desk today.
