Juneteenth Celebration Brings Two Popular Authors to MPL

Marion Public Library (MPL) loves connecting authors with the community. Juneteenth is the perfect opportunity to share cultural differences through the common practice of reading. MPL will welcome authors Jasmine Guillory and Robert Jones, Jr. to our no cost community Juneteenth Celebration on Friday, June 17. Join us at 6:00pm to mingle with the authors. The author program begins at 7:00pm with the book signing at 8:00pm.

These two authors offer different writing styles as well as approaches to building characters. They will discuss the relevant themes of their books and thoughts on Juneteenth.

Guillory's newest book, By The Book, was just released. She is a New York Times bestselling author of six romance novels. Her work has appeared in O, The Oprah Magazine, Cosmopolitan, and more. She lives in Oakland, CA.

New York Times states Jones’ Black historical fiction book, “The Prophets, explores Black love and memory in a time of trauma.”The book was a finalist for the 2021 National Book Award for Fiction. As well as being featured in The New York Times, his writings have been featured in Essence and The Paris Review and anthologies Four Hundred Souls and The 1619 Project.

Attendees of the Juneteenth Celebration will have the opportunity to ask questions of the two authors

The event is a few years in the making as it was being planned pre-COVID. MPL thanks Marion Community Foundation for a grant that supplemented the gathering of these two authors.

Books by the authors will be available for purchase.
