FirstEnergy Launches New Apprentice Program in Ohio Edison Service Area!

FirstEnergy and its Ohio Edison electric company have launched a new apprentice pilot program in Marion, Sandusky and Springfield, Ohio, to help enhance and expand the company’s existing FirstEnergy’s Power Systems Institute (PSI) line training program. By supplementing the existing program, FirstEnergy hopes to attract talent in areas where it has traditionally been more difficult.

This new, two-year apprenticeship is designed to provide men and women with the opportunity to embark on a meaningful and rewarding career at FirstEnergy. Accepted candidates will be hired as full-time employees. After completing eight weeks of paid basic skills training, apprentices will work in the field alongside Ohio Edison line workers. After the two-year program is complete, participants will have the opportunity to continue their training to progress to journeyman line worker status.

Interested candidates must

o  Live within 45 minutes of Marion, Sandusky or Springfield, Ohio.

o  Be 18 years or older.

o  Have a high school diploma or GED.

Individuals in the Marion-Sandusky-Springfield area who might be interested in the program can learn more and apply at www.firstenergycorp.com/careers. Interested candidates should apply by May 13.

This effort is one of numerous initiatives underway at FirstEnergy to help obtain a diverse, highly-skilled workforce focused on better serving customers. The need for skilled labor has never been greater and FirstEnergy expects to eventually expand the apprentice program into other parts of its five-state service area.
