MARION, OH — The Marion County Board of Developmental Disabilities (MCBDD) welcomes a new board member, Jodi Dennis, to fill an unexpired term ending in December 2022.
Dennis considers her two sons to be her greatest accomplishment. One of which is served by MCBDD, and the other works for the Morrow County Board of DD. In her board member role, she hopes to make a difference in the lives of all served.
"As a parent of a child whom the County Board of DD serves, I am honored and excited to be able to represent all families in my position. I grew up in Marion and have seen the struggle the County Board has faced to gain support," Dennis said. "As a parent, an advocate, and a firm believer in the need for services in our community, I just hope to do the best that I can to represent all of the families served by this organization," she added.
Dennis has been in accounting at International Paper Company for 25 years and has several certificates associated with her position. She is a born and raised Marion, Ohio resident and has enjoyed raising her family here. For relaxation and fun, she enjoys reading, vacationing, and, most of all, spending time with family.
"Dennis brings first-hand knowledge of parenting a child with a developmental disability to our board. This perspective is incredibly important to improve, make strategic decisions, and do what's best for those we serve. We are excited to have her intel and expertise," Cheryl Plaster, superintendent of the Marion County Board of Developmental Disabilities, said of Dennis's appointment.
About MCBDD
Marion County Board of Developmental Disabilities is a governmental organization that provides advocacy and resources to allow those we serve to live, learn, and earn in Marion County.
In 1967, 88 County Boards of Developmental Disabilities were established by the Ohio state legislature to provide supports and services to individuals with intellectual and other developmental disabilities. This change in philosophy and public policy provided alternatives to state run institutions and afforded individuals the opportunity to live, work, and participate in their local community.
Today, more than 800 Marion County children and adults are being served locally. Based on available resources, MCBDD may provide, or arrange for, service and support administration, early childhood services, educational services, supported living, residential services, family support services, job training, employment services, Special Olympics, and many others.
