Union County Sheriff Investigating Fatal Crash on Northwest Parkway

The Union County Sheriff’s Office and units from the Multi County Crash Investigation Team are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred on Northwest Parkway Wednesday afternoon.

On September 1, 2021 at approximately 3:25 pm, the Sheriff’s Office received a 9-1-1 call reporting a serious two-vehicle crash with entrapment at the intersection of the US Route 33 westbound off ramp at Northwest Parkway. Deputies and units from the Marysville Fire Department and the Marysville Police Department responded to the scene and found a 2011 Toyota Rav-4 on the south side of the roadway and a 2005 Red Chevrolet Tahoe in the roadway. MedFlight was called to the scene and two victims were transported to Memorial Hospital by the Marysville Fire Department. The driver of the Toyota Rav-4 was pronounced deceased at Memorial Hospital and has been identified as George G. Thompson, age 80 of Ostrander.

The driver of the Chevrolet Tahoe has been identified as Douglas H. Rowan, age 20 of Marysville. Rowan was transported for suspected serious injuries. The preliminary investigation has determined that the Toyota Rav-4 was exiting US Route 33 westbound to Northwest Parkway and failed to yield to the Chevrolet Tahoe while turning east onto Northwest Parkway. The Chevrolet Tahoe struck the driver’s side of the Toyota Rav-4.

At this time, alcohol, drugs, and speed are not considered to be factors in the crash and both victims were reported to be wearing seat belts. The crash remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.
