Crawford County Vehicle Accident Claims The Life of a Marion Man

On 06-01-2021 at 0513 hrs, The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two-vehicle injury crash on State Route 4, south of State Route 294. Dallas Township Fire Department, Bucyrus Township Fire Department and Portsmouth Ambulance Service also responded.

Preston Borders, age 21, of Marion Ohio was driving a 2006 Toyota Tacoma southbound on SR 4. For reasons unknown at this time, Borders went left of center and struck a 2020 Chevy Silverado, driven by James Adams, age 52, of West Mansfield Ohio. Adams was hauling a boat northbound on SR 4. Adam’s vehicle went off the east side of the road and overturned, coming to rest in the ditch. The boat came off the trailer and also came to rest in the east ditch. Borders’ vehicle came to rest in the southbound lane, facing northeast.

Adams and his 16-year-old passenger were transported to the Bucyrus Community Hospital, and later flown to OSU medical hospital in Columbus.

Borders was pronounced deceased at the scene by Crawford County Coroner Chris Johnson. The passenger was transported to Bucyrus Community Hospital and flown to OSU medical Center.

Ohio Department of Transportation was contacted and set up a detour around the crash scene. Ronk’s towing was called to the scene to remove the vehicles. The roadway was opened back up for travel at 0845 hrs.

The passenger from Borders’ vehicle is not being released until the identity has been confirmed and family is notified. The cause of crash has not been identified and no further details are available at this time.
