Marion City Auditor Issues An Advisory on Tax Fraud!

As we enter the busy income tax season, we wanted to inform the Community of important tips to protect themselves against fraud and theft. Tax fraud is a serious problem in our Country and our best weapon to fight it is a knowledgeable Citizenry. Below are some helpful tips to protect you and your loved ones this income tax season:

·The Marion City Auditor’s Office will not call or email you. We will contact you by letter.

·Never give your personal information over the phone or by email.

·Carry tax documents in sealed envelopes so your information is not readily seen or available.

According to the IRS, tax fraud includes the following:

  • False exemptions or deductions
  • Kickbacks
  • A false or altered document
  • Failure to pay tax
  • Unreported income
  • Organized crime
  • Failure to withhold
  • Failure to follow the tax laws
