Marion Mayor Self-Quarantining After City Employee Tests Positive for COVID

Late afternoon on October 6, notification was received that a City employee tested positive for COVID-19. At that time, disinfection of affected areas of City Hall began immediately. A decision was also made to send employees for COVID testing that were in close and/or extended direct contact with this employee. The test results for these employees were negative.

Out of an abundance of caution, Mayor Schertzer and Director of Public Works Jim Bischoff will be self-quarantining for the appropriate amount of time and will undergo another COVID test before returning to work.

It is important to note that at this time and to the best of our knowledge, no other employee is experiencing any symptoms or signs of COVID-19; and, the employee that tested positive was fully masked while in City Hall on Monday.

This is a candid reminder of the following:

1. Wear a facial covering in public. (Statewide Mandate on 07/23/2020)

2. Social distance as much as possible.

3. Wash hands frequently.

4. Maintain and increase the sanitizing protocols already in place.
