Marion Technical College Extends Scholarship Deadline to July 1

(Marion) In response to the disruption caused by COVID-19, Marion Technical College is extending the deadline for all college scholarships to July 1, 2020.

“The coronavirus has upended so many people’s lives and plans,” said Dr. Ryan McCall, president of Marion Tech. “We want to make sure as many people as possible have the opportunity to get to next.”

Among the scholarship funds to be awarded is the Get to Next Scholarship Program. This innovative, unique program provides the second year of tuition free, as well as $300 in book vouchers, extra tutoring and support.

“We want students not to just start college but to complete their degree. This a way of showing we believe they will make it to graduation!” said Dr. Amy Adams, Vice President of Planning and Advancement at MTC. “BOGO is exciting for shoes – but it is phenomenal for college tuition!”

In addition, MTC offers the Foundation Scholarships, which offers full tuition to students in the top five percent of their high school class. President’s Scholarships award $1,500 to students in the top 50% of their class. This covers 30% of the annual cost of tuition, which is just $4,940 per year for Ohio residents.

“The cost of college shouldn’t prevent people from achieving their dreams,” McCall said. “We want to remove as many barriers as possible for our students.”

A new scholarship is the Choose Ohio First scholarship, which offers $1,500 per year to an Ohio student attending MTC majoring in Information Technology for Cyber Security, Networking, or Software Development. This scholarship can be renewed for a second year.

Dozens of other named scholarship funds are exclusively for MTC students, each one with individual qualifications. Some are earmarked for veterans, nursing students, business majors, engineering technology students, local residents and more. One simple application works for many of these funds. All applicants should also complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by July 1.

More than 77% of MTC students receive financial aid. Last year, MTC provided more than $6.7 million in scholarships, grants, loans, work-study programs, and other financial aid.

At just $185 per credit hour for summer classes and just $190 per credit hour for Fall Semester, Marion Tech is one of the most affordable options in the state for higher education.

“As families cope with our current economy, now is an even better time to consider the affordability of Marion Tech,” McCall stated. “Under the current stay at home order, it’s also a good opportunity to make the best of this time and take classes online. We have quality programs that lead to well-paying, in-demand careers. Many classes are guaranteed to transfer to state universities at less than half the cost.”
