Marion Public Health Issues Statement About Local Coronavirus Numbers Surge

When the case numbers are released at 2pm on the coronavirus.ohio.org website, Marion is going to be among the highest in the state. Marion Public Health wants you to know that this significant increase in cases is primarily due to the testing of the inmate population in our County's prison. We are getting positive cases back by the hundreds from the facility testing.

Marion Public Health staff has been entering information into the system all day Saturday and will most likely be doing the same on Sunday, so we do not know what the exact number that will be reported by ODH.

We can tell you we have 80 community spread cases in Marion County. The rest are inmates from MCI. This number will continue to climb given that they have tested every inmate and employee at MCI. We are expecting to see those results come in over the next few days.

The breakdown of community cases:

80 cases - 15 probable, 65 confirmed

11 recovered

1 deceased

37 females

43 males

Ages ranging 8-95

Median age: 49
