Adult Lifelong Learning Classes To Begin This Fall

The Adult Lifelong Learning (all) program is a new venture for Marion Public Library and other community partners who have teamed up to offer local residents opportunities to take classes in a wide variety of subjects. Several classes will be offered beginning this fall, with a more extensive course listing planned for 2020.

An open-house event is planned for September 16th at 3:00 pm where Fall 2019 classes will be unveiled and enrollment will kick off. These initial classes will be free of charge, with plans for a nominal per-class fee beginning in 2020. Those interested will be able to register for classes by contacting the Library. “We are filling a gap in the community by offering lifelong learning opportunities for older adults who seek social connections in an atmosphere of creativity and personal growth,” said Gary Branson, Executive Director of Marion Public Library. “Learning doesn’t end on graduation day,” he added, “especially in this day and age. We will continue to push the message that learning is a lifelong activity that is crucial for personal growth.”

The classes typically consist of multiple sessions, often spanning several weeks. They will be led by local subject matter experts, educators, and academic faculty. Branson said a Library-led committee is already hard at work building the course offerings for spring and fall, 2020.
