The city of Marion would like to raise the sewer rates, to pay for for sewer improvements and upgrades to the wastewater treatment plant. The 10 year plan is to raise a portion of city residents' sanitation and sewer bill by 5 percent, as part of a long-term plan to improve the city's storm and sanitary sewer system. Over 10 year period, a four-person household's city bill could increase by as much as 30 percent, assuming each person in that household uses 50 gallons of water per day. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources estimates that the average Ohio resident uses about 50 gallons of water per day.
