A Marion man has been indicted by a grand jury. Jared A. Scheck, age 22, of Marion, called a suicide hotline saying he wanted police to shoot him, leading to a three-hour standoff outside Marion Centre mall earlier this month. Scheck, has been indicted on four counts of assault, in connection with the standoff with Marion County Sheriff's Office deputies on Jan. 17 in the parking lot of Marion Centre mall. According to a report Scheck told a suicide hotline that he had just been released from prison and was feeling depressed and that he had a gun in the glove box and wanted law enforcement officers to shoot him. Scheck never fired a shot but pointed what was believed to be a gun at deputies and threatened to shoot them. Scheck later surrendered to deputies and was taken into custody. It was found that he had a BB gun and a toy gun.
