It's unclear how authorities became convinced that a body pulled from the bushes was 57-year-old Frank Kerrigan. His identity had been confirmed through fingerprints at the coronor's office. His father, 82-year-old Frank, said "my son was gone." The body had been identified based on an old drivers license photo after someone told police it looked like Kerrigan. Before the funeral, the elder Kerrigan said he asked someone at the funeral home to open the casket for a last look. Overcome with grief, he patted the dead mans hair and had the casket closed. The ceremony cost the family $20,000, according to a lawyer they have hired to sue the county. Ten days after the funeral the elder Kerrigan got a phone call from a longtime family friend who has served as a pallbearer at the funeral, saying the dead man was standing on his patio and wanted to speak to him. He said "Hi, Dad, its me." There's still the matter of who's buried in Frank Kerrigan's grave. I wouldn't mind being the lawyer in that case. It's obvious a serious mistake took place and now the county will have to pay up.
