The Marion post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that happened Friday afternoon. Around 4:40pm at the intersection of St. Rt. 98 & Patton Pike in Claridon Twp.
OSP reports 83-yr-old David Beatty of Cardington was going east on Patton Pike when he failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection at SR 98. Beatty’s Dodge Ram was struck by a motorcycle driven by 35-yr-old Justin Woodard of Cardington, who was heading south on SR 98.
Woodard and his passenger, 52-yr-old Lori Cassady, were ejected from the motorcycle. Neither Woodard nor Cassady were wearing helmets. Woodard was pronounced dead at the scene by the Marion County Coroner. Cassady died as a result of her injuries while medics were transporting her to Marion General Hospital.
Beatty was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was transported to Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center by Med Flight. He was later released.
