POET Biorefining-Marion LLC are moving forward with their plans to expand its local operation after the Marion County Commissioners approved a 2-year, 80 percent tax abatement. The South Dakota-based company have plans for a $115 million expansion project to the Marion plant. The POET facility is located at 1660 Hillman Ford Road in Marion. Poet has 28 ethanol plants with 27 of them including the Marion plant that process corn POET will be adding 18 to 20 new jobs and doubling the size of the Marion plant. The new jobs would add about 950,000 dollars to the current payroll. The 80 percent abatement of taxes on real estate improvements will be in place for 12 years. The value of the abatement is estimated to be between 1.5 million and 2 million dollars. The Ridgedale Local Schools and the Marion Township Trustees approved of the abatement proposal earlier this year in February.
