Florence “See-See” Rigney just celebrated her 92nd birthday and she’s still hard at work as a nurse at Tacoma General Hospital, where she started just after World War II. A couple years ago, Washington Governor Jay Inslee congratulated her on being “our nation’s oldest working registered nurse.” And she’s not stopping yet.
Rigney did try to retire once, way back when she was 67, but it only lasted six months before she was back at the hospital. And after seven decades, she’s still setting up operating rooms and helping prep patients for surgery.
"I certainly feel honored and humbled,” Rigney says. “I feel very blessed to be able to still function." As for retirement, she says she’s going to do it “one of these days.”
