Law enforcement knows that it needs a partnership with the community to be truly successful. That is why the MARMET Drug Task Force has launched a new website to give citizens an additional way to share information with law enforcement to make Marion a safer place.
The website can be found at www.mariontips.org and it was designed to assist local law enforcement in receiving tips on crime. Law enforcement would always prefer for those with information to provide their contact information in case we need to ask questions or gather additional details, but this website will allow for anonymous tips as well. MARMET focuses on illegal drugs but information on any crime can be submitted to mariontips.org. The website can also be used to report a positive experience with a law enforcement officer or simply ask a question. The site has updated features which allows send photos when submitting tips which can be very helpful to those investigating crimes.
“Marion’s law enforcement strives to provide the best service to our community and this website is one more tool to help keep Marion safe. The ability to leave tips digitally, including photographs, and also to have a resource on where to get help for our friends and neighbors who are struggling with addiction is one more way we hope to improve our service to the community” says Sheriff Matt Bayles.
“This new website is not monitored 24/7, so it is not the proper place to report ongoing crimes. Please call 911 or the business lines for the Marion Police Department (740-387-2525) or the Marion County Sheriff’s Office (740-382-8244) to report crimes or make contact with a law enforcement officer” said Marion Police Chief Jay McDonald.
“One of the best things about this website is that it also has a section where citizens can access resources like contact information for drug treatment providers and links to get more information about the dangers of illegal drugs in our communities” Marion County Prosecutor Ray Grogan stated.
MARMET is working on a project to receive tips through text messages and hopes to make an announcement soon when that project is up and running.
Anyone wishing to leave a tip on crime in your neighborhood may do so by calling the Marion TIPS lines at 740-375-8477(TIPS) or submit an online tip at www.mariontips.org. These tips may be left anonymously.
