Large Drug Seizure in Marion Comes From “See Something, Say Something”!

On February 23, 2021 patrol officers from the Marion Police Department responded to the 1300 block of Crescent Heights Road for a reported suspicious occupied vehicle. Their investigation resulted in 2 arrests and the seizure of 2 loaded handguns, approximately 85.7 grams of Methamphetamine and $3536 in U.S. currency.

Arrested was a Shannon Shannin, age 31 of Marion, along with Michael Marshall, age 32 out of Columbus. It was also later determined that Marshall also had active felony warrants out for his arrest. Detectives from the METRICH/MARMET Task Force responded and executed a search warrant at an apartment in the area and located an additional 175.6 grams of Methamphetamine for a total of 261.3 grams of Methamphetamine seized.

Shannon Shannin is being held at Multi County Jail on a charge of Trafficking in Methamphetamine, Weapons Under Disability and Carrying a Concealed Weapon. Michael Marshall is being held on Possession of Methamphetamine, Weapons Under Disability, Carrying Concealed Weapon, Obstructing Justice, and the active warrants. This case will be forwarded to Marion County Prosecutor Ray Grogan for the filing of formal charges.

We contribute this seizure to the concerned citizens who followed the “see something, say something’ phrase. “Without the help of the citizens of Marion these drugs would have most likely been distributed through our community” states Marion City Police Chief Jay McDonald. “Anytime we can get this amount of drugs, coupled with the guns, off the street, it makes our community safer” McDonald said.

The MARMET Drug Task Force is made of members of the Marion City Police Department, Marion County Sheriff’s Office, and the Marion County Prosecutors Office.
