COLUMBUS—State Senator Bill Reineke (R-Tiffin) yesterday introduced Senate Bill 52, which would allow local residents to be able to decide whether a wind or solar development project is a good fit for their area.
"This is a fair bill that notifies developers of a potential referendum ahead of time while still ensuring that locals have a say," Reineke said. "Senate Bill 52 is truly about local control."
Under this bill, residents would be allowed to submit public input on solar and wind development projects in their affected townships by filing a referendum through the local board of elections following a resolution by the local township trustees. This would pause any certificates issued by the Ohio Power Siting Board (OPSB) for the projects if filed within 90 days after being issued.
