UPDATE: Arrests Made In South Prospect Street Shooting!

On August 5, 2020 around 11:56 a.m., Officers from the Marion Police Department responded to 682 South Prospect Street for a report of shots fired in the parking lot of this address. This is the address of the South Prospect Street Market. Shortly afterwards, the police department was made aware that the victim of the shooting had arrived at Marion General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

There has not been an arrest made in this case as of the time of this release.

Officers and Detectives from the police department are still actively investigating and this news release will be updated as more information becomes available.

***UPDATE***

On August 5, 2020, with the help of Marion County Prosecutor Ray Grogan, an arrest warrant was obtained for Samuel Blake Music, age 22 of Marion, for felonious assault and a separate warrant was also obtained for Madison Awbrey, age 18, from Marion for Complicity to Felonious Assault in connection to their roles in this shooting.

Around 6:45 p.m, on August 5, Music and Awbrey were apprehended in Rocky Top, Tennessee by the Tennessee Highway Patrol and arrested without incident. Extradition details are still being finalized.

The victim in this shooting, D’Shawn U. Barnes, age 24 of Marion, had been transferred to Riverside Hospital in Columbus from Marion General Hospital but has since been released from the hospital.

“While we are grateful that this incident did not have a fatal result, we know that this community will not accept this kind of brazen violence. The men and women of the Marion Police Department will work tirelessly to track down those who commit such violence in our City anywhere in the country” said Marion Police Chief Bill Collins.
