Donald W. “Don” Matthews, age 71, of Mount Gilead, Ohio, passed away Sunday evening, March 10, 2019, at the Woodside Village Care Center.
On August 20, 1947, Don was born in Detroit, Michigan, son of the late Jerry George and Gladys (Adkins) Matthews. He graduated in 1965 from Guyan Valley High School in West Virginia.
Over the years, Don worked numerous factory jobs as a general laborer, forklift driver and performed maintenance.
Don was an outdoorsman at heart. He loved hunting squirrel, rabbit and fishing. He enjoyed old cars and drag racing in his earlier years.
Most of the time, Don was a quiet man and observed the world around him. He also possessed a wonderful sense of humor.
Don is survived by a son, Michael Matthews of PA; a sister, Sharon Madden of Reynoldsburg, OH; his cousin, Hampton (Vilinda) Adkins of Streetsboro, OH; a niece, Shannon (Scott) McCandlish of Reynoldsburg, OH; and a great-nephew, Cody McCandlish.
Services will be held by his family in West Virginia at a later date.
