The Marion County Hazard Mitigation Plan is due for an update. Hazard Mitigation Plans are revised every five years because the hazards that can affect our communities can change over time. Our Hazard Mitigation Plan addresses threats from potential hazards and identifies possible strategies and projects to reduce impacts, protect people and property, and to reduce or eliminate long-term risk. These updates allow Marion County and our participating communities to remain eligible for pre-disaster and post-disaster mitigation grant programs. Public participation is a critical component of a successful and comprehensive update.
Marion County EMA will be hosting a public meeting on Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at the Marion County Building (Prospect Room) located at 222 W. Center St., in Marion. The meeting will be held from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm.
Everyone interested in learning more about the Marion County Hazard Mitigation Plan and helping us make Marion County less vulnerable to natural disasters is encouraged to attend. Attendees will receive an overview of the hazard mitigation planning process and will have the opportunity to offer recommendations for projects. The final plan will be submitted to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for approval. We may not be able to prevent disasters from happening, but we can work together to reduce or eliminate life safety, property damage, and financial impacts through hazard mitigation planning. Please join us in making a difference in our community!
