FATAL TRAFFIC CRASH in Wyandot County on Sunday, January 13, 2019
On January 13, 2019 at approximately 1643 hours, the Wyandot County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call regarding a traffic crash involving two vehicles on CH 330 near CH 134 in Eden township.
Deputies from the Wyandot County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene. A Deputy arrived and located the crash scene near 3136 CH 330. The Deputy was advised that the occupants of the Dodge Journey were alert and oriented, however the driver of the Ford Taurus was unconscious. Deputies and personnel from the Wyandot East Fire Department worked to gain entry into the vehicle and began providing care for the driver. The driver was identified as Heather J. Raypole, age 17, of Sycamore.
Investigation and witnesses stated that Miss Raypole was traveling westbound on CH 330 when her vehicle hit a patch of snow covering the roadway causing her to lose control of the vehicle and go left of center into oncoming traffic. Miss Raypole’s vehicle was facing south when it was struck by an eastbound vehicle.
Miss Raypole was transported from then scene by Wyandot East EMS to Wyandot Memorial Hospital, and then was transported on by Lifeflight to St. Vincent Mercy Hospital in Toledo where she was pronounced deceased. Initial investigation indicates that Miss Raypole was wearing her seatbelt.
Assisting at the crash scene were the Wyandot County Sheriff’s Office, Wyandot East EMS and FIRE, and Wyandot County EMS & JAWS.
