Two Officers Involved In An Injury Crash During a High Speed Pursuit!

An Oak Harbor Police Officer and an Ottawa County Sheriff's Deputy were transported to Saint Vincent Medical Center after being involved in a crash during a pursuit. Both officers were in pursuit of a black Dodge Challenger north of Oak Harbor on State Route 19 at the intersection of Salem-Carroll Road at approximately 9:10 PM. The Dodge Challenger made a left hand turn on to Salem-Carroll Road. When the Officer slowed to make his turn, he was struck from behind by the Ottawa County Sheriff's Deputy. After contact, Oak Harbor Police traveled off the left side of the road, struck an embankment and overturned coming to rest on it's wheels. The Ottawa County Sheriff's Deputy also traveled off the left side of the road, struck an embankment and came to rest in the ditch.

Officer Loren G. Welch from the Oak Harbor Police Department sustained non-incapacitating injuries as a result of the crash. Officer Welch was transported to Saint Vincent Medical Center in Toledo by Mid County EMS. Deputy Nickolas D. Davenport from the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office was also transported to Saint Vincent Medical Center in Toledo by Mid County EMS. Deputy Davenport sustained non-incapacitating injuries as a result of the crash.

Assisting agencies on scene: Mid County EMS, Carroll Township Fire, Ottawa County Sheriff's Department, ODOT and Greer's Towing.

The Crash remains under investigation.
