Ohio Health Department Warns Of Increase In Tick-Borne Diseases

The Ohio Health Department is issuing a warning after seeing an increase in the diagnosis of diseases carried by ticks in the state. Officials said yesterday they are not sure why the number of tick-related health issues is on the rise, but limited exposure is always the first defense. The most serious tick-borne illness is Lyme Disease, which data shows had increased in Ohio from 58 cases in 2009 to almost 300 cases in 2018. Experts say when in tall grass and other areas known for ticks, people should wear repellent, check clothing, and skin for the insects, then shower soon after coming back indoors.
