Arrest Made in Marion's Thursday Morning Drive-By Shooting

On August 2, 2018, at approximately 1231 AM Marion Police Officers responded to the report of shots fired and a possible shooting victim in the 800 block of Richmond Avenue. Upon officer’s arrival, it was determined that a drive-by shooting had occurred in the area of Richmond Ave. and Fairlane Ave. It was determined that the victim Jamiel Steele had been shot several times from a passing vehicle. Steele was transported to Marion General Hospital where he was flown by helicopter to a Columbus hospital for treatment.

The victim of this shooting knew his assailant and was able to provide investigators with the suspect's name. A search for the suspect continued throughout the night and into the morning. At approximately 9:45 AM Law Enforcement from the Marion Police Department and the Marion County Sheriff’s Department located the suspect in the shooting at a local hotel. At that time Jason D. Ray 25 years of age was arrested and transported to the Multi-County Jail. Formal charges are pending with the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office.

Chief Bill Collins would like the public to know that we are actively searching for the shooter from the incident that occurred on July 29, 2018 at Gotham Bar in downtown Marion. There is an active arrest warrant for Lloyd J. Hinton III DOB 05/25/1993, Hinton should be considered armed and dangerous and if spotted 911 should be called immediately. Chief Collins further stated that 3 shooting incidents have occurred in the City of Marion since July 27, 2018, and all 3 appear to be connected and the parties involved are all known to each other.
