Marion Man Dies after a Domestic Incident in Newark

A domestic incident involving a Marion man resulted in a death. The incident happened on North 21st Street in Newark, on Monday. A call came into the Police department around 10:46 a.m. on a potential active shooter situation on North 21st Street near Deo Drive.

Police said a woman was being chased by her boyfriend, 29-year-old Phillip Lee Parker of Marion. Both vehicles were involved in collisions with other vehicles.

An initial investigation by police said that Parker accidentally shot himself when he was involved in a collision.

Parker then exited the vehicle and fired at the victim, who was running for help from a local business. Police said the victim was struck one of the bullets. Parker then stumbled and fell over a curb where he later was pronounced dead.

On Sunday night, the victim had also called police stating that Parker held her at gunpoint and threatened to kill her and her family on July 21.

Parker was released from prison in January after serving nearly two years for drug trafficking offenses, according to Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction records.
