A virus that has been killing young pigs throughout farms in 22 states since April has made its way into Crawford County.
According to the National Pork Board, the virus, this also is referred to as PEDV or PED, is not a new one.
The USDA reports the virus poses no risk to other animals or humans.
The U.S. strain is nearly identical to a version that curbed hog production in China in 2012.
The disease is being monitored by the American Association of Swine Veterinarians, along with state and federal officials.
